Verdict: Saoirse Ronan excels as Christine "Lady Bird" McPherson, a rebellious 17-year-old girl living her last high school days in Sacramento. But what makes this movie exceptional is the fact that its quality doesn't rely solely on Ronan's performance. It truly was a team effort, led by the biggest revelation in quite some time, writer/director Greta Gerwig, who, with the help of some phenomenal lines of dialogue and one of the richest screenplays of the year, took something we've seen a million times and made it her own. Gerwig's directorial debut will be remembered as one of the best coming of age stories ever put to screen, and absolutely deserves all the praise it's getting.
Final Grade: 8/10
